In Ocaña, Department of Norte de Santander, efforts are intensified to neutralize forest fire

En Ocaña, Norte de Santander se intensifican labores para controlar incendio forestal

In the rural area of the municipality of Ocaña, Department of Norte de Santander, a forest fire has consumed approximately 60 hectares of vegetation and forest in the Las Liscas sector; due to the magnitude of the environmental emergency, an inter-institutional work has been carried out to neutralize the flames in which the Colombian Aerospace Force, which has sent a HUEY-II helicopter equipped with the Bambi Bucket system for the extinction of the fire.

So far, the aircraft has dropped 760 gallons of water with retardant liquid on the most active spots of the fire, thanks to its forest fire containment mechanism, capable of recharging quickly and releasing the water accurately, which optimizes the response to this type of environmental emergencies; the aerial intervention has been fundamental, not only because of the difficulty of access to the terrain, but in the same way because of the support it provides to the firefighters fighting the fire of the ground.

The fire control operations have been constant, with strategic water drops to prevent the fire from spreading further; although some hot spots still remain active, the efforts will continue during today's activity until the total extinction of the flames. At the same time, the authorities have intensified the recommendations to the people to prevent new conflagrations.
