Operations against the illegal exploitation of mining sites are continuous at the national level

In the departments of Antioquia, Choc贸, Cauca, Caldas and Nari帽o, operations were carried out against the illicit income of criminal groups.

In compliance with the policies of the National Government regarding environmental justice, troops of the National Army, in the uninterrupted development of joint, coordinated and inter-institutional military operations, reported the intervention of 32 mining production units that were used for the illicit exploitation of mining deposits.

With these results it was possible to hit the illicit activities of the GAO organized armed groups and Transnational Organized Crime, by neutralizing the machinery that has an approximate cost of eight billion pesos, where more than 33 thousand grams of gold were produced, equivalent to more than ten billion pesos that these outlaw groups stopped receiving for the commercialization of that metal.

At the scene of the events, 24 arrests were made, individuals who apparently would be part of these organized armed groups, and the material found was put into custody of the authority.

It should be clarified that these illegal mining operations hit the environment in an estimated area of 110 hectares, where the removal of 126,500 cubic meters of soil was carried out; in the same way, with these illegal activities some water tributaries were polluted.
