Units of the Colombian Navy are working to ensure safe transit along the Guaviare and Orinoco rivers, ensuring the supply of fuel for the inhabitants.
Since the last January 2nd, Units of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No. 50 carry out permanent protection and river control operations to ships navigating along the Guaviare and Orinoco rivers, in order to work to hoist a safe transit along the river route that contacts to Inírida, capital of the department of Guainía.
These actions respond to the fuel supply crisis faced by the region, caused by the reduction of flows in the main river axes that connect with the department. Faced with this scenario, the Colombian Navy sent a river logistics bridge that, so far, has led to the entry of more than 130,000 gallons of fuel.
100,000 gallons arrived from San José del Guaviare aboard two boats, while another 30,000 gallons were transported from the municipality of Cumaribo, in the department of Vichada, significantly contributing to mitigate the impact of the shortage.
The fuel received is intended to support essential activities, leading people to maintain the continuity of their daily lives and normal access to basic services.
In parallel, the Naval Force of the Orinoquia is constant in its sustained control and security operations throughout its river basin, through permanent patrols, preventive inspections, checkpoints and accompaniment of ships, in coordination with local and regional authorities, strengthening the institutional activity of the State in this strategic area of the country.
