Through this operation, more than 700 thousand doses of narcotics were prevented from being marketed on the streets of the world and more than 15 million dollars were stopped from entering the finances of these criminal groups.
As part of operations against criminal organizations specialized in drug trafficking in the department of Chocó, the Colombian Navy seized about a ton of drugs, valued at more than 15 million dollars. The cargo allegedly belonged to the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, the main criminal structure in this region.
In the first operation, troops of Navy Infantry Battalion No. 23 arrived at the Pueblo Viejo neighborhood, an urban area of the municipality of Juradó, in order to make effective a search warrant to a building, issued by the Seventh Sectional Prosecutor's Office of Quibdó. This operation led to the arrest in flagrante delicto of one person and the finding of 649 packages hidden inside the house, which, by their characteristics and smell, would resemble marijuana.
The second procedure was carried out thanks to valuable information provided by Naval Intelligence, which led to finding a ship that was traveling suspiciously through the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Immediately, a Rapid Reaction Unit of the Bahía Solano Coast Guard Station was sent in the area, with the aim of carrying out interception of the boat.
Upon noticing the activity of the members of the Military Forces, the individuals on board the boat tried to flee and reached the Punta Ardita sector, where they ran the ship aground, descended and hid several sacks in the place, and then escaped with an unknown destination. Thanks to the search efforts carried out by the Navy Infantry units, it was possible to find in a rocky area, 11 sacks containing 240 packages with physical characteristics, smell and consistency, similar to cocaine hydrochloride, as well as 92 packages of marijuana.
The material found in the two operations was taken to the Navy Infantry Battalion No. 23, in Bahía Solano, Chocó department, where the staff of the Technical Research Corps -CTI- conducted the Approved Preliminary Identification Test, which confirmed that it was 240 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride and 677 kilograms of Marijuana.
The arrested personnel and illegal elements were put into custody of the authorities to carry out the corresponding legal procedures.
