More than 10 percent of the men who enter military service are trained in environmental issues with the support of the schools that train them so that they promote the care and protection of the environment in this important region of the country.

In the frame of its commitment to preserve natural richness, the National Army, with its units in the region of Urabá Antioquia, Cordoba and Chocó, has implemented a series of strategies to generate collective awareness on issues such as deforestation, the importance of recovering the rainforest and the prosecution of those behind environmental crimes, the above, contemplated in Operation Artemisa, in order to compensate the damage caused to ecosystems by the unlawful use of natural resources.

So during the last week, in the Yarumal village of the municipality of Turbo, Antioquia, soldiers of the National Army, together with the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development of the mayor's office of Turbo, and the people of the sector, planted 1,200 native trees of the region.

In addition, to the environmental activities, at the military base of the Seventeenth Brigade, there is a nursery. The main objective of this place is to germinate the seeds and reproduce the plants until they reach the proper state for distribution and increase planting in areas where illicit plantations were previously planted for the finances of groups outlaw.

It is important to mention that these results are the product of coordinated work with the people and environmental institutions of Urabá, with the aim of protecting biodiversity, thus reducing deforestation rates in this important area of the country.
