Second Lieutenant Jhonatan Monsalve Moreno
The Command of the Eleventh Brigade, unit of the Seventh Division of Colombian National Army, informs:
1. Today, July 9, in the framework of stability operations and protecting the lives of the inhabitants of the Las Cruces sector, in Valdivia, department of Antioquia, a military unit was the victim of the activation of unconventional explosives conditioned in a domestic animal, used as a mule Bomb, by members of the Heroes of Taraza group, of the organized armed group, GAO, Eln. The person responsible for this abominable practice would be the ringleader alias Matias.
2. As a result of this cowardly terrorist operation, Second Lieutenant Jonathan Monsalve Moreno was killed, and two professional soldiers got injuries.
3. Immediately, air support of the Colombian Aerospace Force was requested for the extraction of the wounded and murdered military personnel. The wounded soldiers were taken to the city of Medellin.
4. Colombian National Army vehemently rejects these criminal acts that attack the lives of members of the Military Forces and put the inhabitants of the sector at imminent risk, so the respective denunciations will be filed with the authorities.
In the same way, this Command condemns the use of animals in a cruel and macabre way to carry out terrorism; this is a practice that is not new within the operations of illegal armed groups.
5. Colombian National Army deeply regrets the death of Lieutenant Monsalve, and sends a heartfelt message of condolences to his family and relatives. In the same way, a multidisciplinary team of the family center is supporting them in this difficult moment.
6. The troops will continue to carry out sustained military operations in this sector of the department of Antioquia, in order to promote the security of the communities and strictly comply with the constitutional mission.
