Soldier José Eduardo Díaz Vides

 

The Energy Operational Command No.1, unit of the Second Division of the National Army informs:

 

1. Today, in the early hours of the morning, soldiers of the Ground Operations Battalion No.11, operationally attached to the Special Energy and Road Battalion No.21, were attacked with explosive devices, apparently by GAO-r E33 terrorists, while providing security at the Caño Limón-Coveñas petroleum pipeline, on KP409 sector , in the village of San Carlos, El Tarra municipality, Norte de Santander.

 

2. As a result of the vile attack, our Soldier José Eduardo Díaz Vides was killed, and two non-commissioned officers and two soldiers were injured. They are being taken to a medical center in the city of Cúcuta, and at the moment they are stable.

 

3. The organized armed group that commits crimes in the sector continues to violate human rights and violate the international humanitarian law. Through this Command, the respective denunciations will be filed with the authorities for the use of illicit means and methods of warfare.

 

4. Troops of the Energy Operational Command No.1 continue to carry out stability operations on this region, in defense of civilians and their property, as well as to work to raise the security of the Caño Limón-Coveñas Pipeline, countering criminal operations against the inhabitants of the region.

 

5. We are deeply sorry for the loss of our soldier Diaz, who gave his life in the line of duty. We send a heartfelt greeting of condolences to his family, partners and colleagues.
