Press Release

The command of the Seventeenth Brigade informs:

 

1. On the afternoon of this Friday, July 29, troops of Infantry Battalion No.46 Voltigeros, who were carrying out search and control work in the Limón village, in the municipality of Tierralta, in the department of Córdoba, were attacked by alleged members of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo.

 

2. As a result of this terrorist operation, soldier Blas Andrés Soto Carrascal was killed and one more was injured, who was immediately assisted by military rescuers. Subsequently, he was taken to a hospital, where at this time he is recovering.

 

3. This Command regrets the murder of Private Soto Carrascal, who was carrying out operations to protect the communities of the region, victims of these criminals. In the same way, we send our condolences to the relatives and partners of the military.

 

4. All the necessary support has already been provided to the Attorney General's Office, in order to bring to justice those responsible for the murder of the officer as soon as possible.

 

5. The National Army will continue to conduct the military operation in this region, in order to neutralize the members of this criminal organization and other organized armed groups that alter the security and tranquility of the inhabitants in the Urabá region in the departments of Antioquia, Cordoba and Chocó.
