Press Release

The Energy Operational Command No.1, a unit attached to the Second Division of the National Army, reports:

1. Last Friday afternoon, April 8, troops of the Special Energy and Road Battalion No. 21 while a territorial control operation was being carried out, were attacked by sniper fire in the municipality of El Rosal, in El Tarra, Norte de Santander.

As a result of this criminal operation, a soldier was hit by the Organized Armed Group, GAO, ELN, Front Héctor, in a vile and cowardly operation that violates human rights.

2. Immediately, the military rescuers provided first aid to the soldier, who was evacuated to a health center, to be assisted by specialized medical personnel. Despite the efforts, the Soldier Iván Andrés Gamarra Martelo died on the morning of this Saturday, April 9.

3. This Command emphatically repudiates the murder of our soldier, a hero of the homeland who lost his life in the line of duty.

4. In compliance with the constitutional principle of harmonious collaboration to be conducted by the institutions, work will continue to be done with the other authorities to find the whereabouts of those responsible.

5. The men and women of this Command pray for the eternal rest of the Soldier and send a message of condolences and accompaniment to his family and partners.
