Press release

The Command of the Tenth Brigade, a military unit of the First Division of the National Army, reports:

1.    In the early hours of this Thursday, January 20, 2022, in a cowardly terrorist operation that violates the provisions of international humanitarian law and violates human rights, the military base of Chiriguaná, in the department of Cesar, was attacked with explosive devices.

 

2.     As a result of this criminal attack, Soldier Faider Martínez Gómez was killed. There another man was in the same way wounded with shrapnel, who was immediately assisted by military rescuers and evacuated to a medical center in Chiriguaná.

 

3. According to preliminary information, this action would have been perpetrated by criminals of the organized armed group (GAO) ELN.

 

4.    The Colombian Army is not stopping and at this hour military operations continue to be conducted to identify those responsible for this terrorist act. In the same way, expert anti-explosive military personnel carried out a thorough review of the facilities of the military unit and its surroundings to rule out any other device.

 

5.    This command emphatically rejects this terroristoperation that seeks to strike the tranquility of the inhabitants of the sector. The denunciation will immediately be filed with the Office of the Attorney General.
