Press release

The Command of the Vulcano Task Force, a unit of the Second Division of the National Army, reports :

1.    This Wednesday morning, January 12, in the municipality of Tibú, Norte de Santander, individuals who apparently belong to the residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r, Structure 33, indiscriminately and in violation of the principle of distinction framed in international humanitarian law, threw a hand grenade, and wounded three of our soldiers.

2.    The members of the Military Forces, an officer and two soldiers, were part of a military component sent with the objective of working for security in the urban area. According to preliminary information, the terrorists perpetrated this cowardly criminal operation from a motorcycle, which was passing through the sector known as La Cuatro, in the municipality of Tibú.

3.    Immediately after the events, the soldiers were given with first aid in the Tibú military base and were then taken to a medical assistance center in the city of Cúcuta. At this time, according to the medical report, they are stable and out of danger. After that, the Military Forces deployed a complete special security operation using all their Resources, in order to find those who committed this reprehensible act.

4.    This Command categorically rejects this cowardly operation that violates human rights and international humanitarian law, which once again demonstrates the criminal operations of these organized armed groups, which will be denounced.
