Press release

La Macarena, Meta, November 28, 2021. The Joint Task Force Omega, DENOUNCES that members of the Residual Organized Armed Group, narco-criminal structure Gentile Duarte, again violated Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, causing the death of one citizen and causing serious injuries to one more, when the victims accidentally activated a minefield planted by these GAO-r terrorists.

1. The area prepared with explosive devices was in the vicinity of the aqueduct that supplies water to the Municipality of San Juan de Lozada, town of La Macarena, Meta, putting the lives of its inhabitants at risk, without the supply of the precious and vital liquid.

2. Troops of the Ground Operations Battalion No. 2 have knowledge of what happened, from information provided by the Civic Participation Network of the region.

3. The wounded citizen is evacuated to a health center in the municipality of Florencia, Caquetá, where he is being assisted by specialized medical personnel.

4. The use of illegal means and methods of warfare is penalized in article 142 of the Colombian Criminal Code (Act No. 599 of 2000).

5. Once again, the Residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r, flagrantly violates Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, especially the principle of distinction, which prohibits civilians from being exposed in the midst of hostilities.

6. The Joint Task Force Omega vehemently rejects this type of insane operations, with which the terrorists of the GAO-r intend to violate the rights of individuals, in this case that of citizens who were in apparent practice of hunting; in the same way security forces calls on public to condemn this criminal practice.
