Press release

1. Thanks to the mediation of a humanitarian group, headed by the Ombudsman's Office, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Catholic Church, Soldier Dayán Leonardo Ávila Chona, belonging to the Santander Infantry Battalion No.15 General Francisco de Paula Santander, was set free in rural zone of the de municipality de Ábrego, Norte de Santander.

 

2. The National Army appreciates the efforts made by this group that led to the return home of this young man, kidnapped on November 4, near Brisas del Tarra, in the municipality of Ábrego, Norte de Santander, while transporting members of a medical mission.

 

3. This Command has already begun with the internal protocols established for the physical and psychological care of uniformed personnel, in order to assess his health condition, as well as provide comprehensive support to their family.

 

4. This Command rejects this cruel crime, an atrocious practice that violates human rights and violates international humanitarian law committed by the residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r, Structure 33. Similarly, we is demand the release of Soldier Jeison Martínez Tapias, kidnapped on November 3, in rural Tibú, when he was carrying out a humanitarian operation of transport and distribution of water to the community.
