Press release

The Command of the Thirtieth Brigade, attached to the Second Division, reports:

1. On the night of August 28 of the current year, while soldiers of the Engineering Battalion no. 30, of the Thirtieth Brigade, carried out territorial control operations to protect civilians, they were attacked with improvised explosive devices in the urban area of the municipality of Tibú, Norte de Santander.

2. As a result of this criminal operation, four soldiers were injured. Immediately after the events, combat nurses gave them first aid, and later they were taken to a medical center in Cúcuta where they received specialized care. Hours later, our Soldier Andrés Felipe Martínez Barahona dies.

3. This Command rejects this terrorist act, which flagrantly violates the international humanitarian law, on the part of these terrorist groups, which use unconventional methods of warfare against the Military Forces and civilians. Similarly, the respective denunciation will be made to the authorities.

4. To the family of our soldier Martínez we send a solidarity greeting of condolences and total support, and for our wounded soldiers we hope their speedy recovery. We will spare no effort in carrying out operations to find those responsible for this vile terrorist act.
