PRESS RELEASE OF THE COLOMBIAN NATIONAL ARMY

The Marte Joint Task Force Command, an organic military unit of the First Division of the Colombian National Army, informs that:

1. Yesterday, December 3, 2019, at night in the sector known as Chontaduro, in the municipality of Montecristo, department of Bolívar, troops of the Joint Task Force Marte were carrying out military eradication operations of coca leaf cultivation. They were surprised by the activation of a minefield, apparently planted by terrorism support networks of the front 'Guillermo Ariza', of the Organized Armed Group, GAO Eln, which hits with minor injuries eight of our soldiers.

2. The protocols established to treat the wounded military personnel were immediately activated, stabilizing and evacuating them by air to the Regional Hospital of Barrancabermeja, in Santander, where they receive specialized medical assistance. According to the first medical report, they are out of danger.

3. This Command rejects these terrorist acts that harm civilians and the Security forces in this region of the country, through flagrant violations of human rights and violations of international humanitarian law.
