As part of the commitment to the preservation of the fauna and flora of the Colombian Caribbean, units of the Colombian Navy recovered 105 specimens of live lizards that would have been sold for more than 80 million pesos in the department of Cesar.
The operation was carried out by units of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.17 by means of a river control carried out by Navy Infantry troops on the Magdalena River, in the Muelle El Ferry sector, municipality of La Gloria - C茅sar, where they detected the suspicious movement of several individuals in a canoe-type boat, who, when noticed the existence of the troops, started to escape.
When checking the place, 105 live lizards were found by troops inside 13 sacks. Apparently the reptiles would be commercialized due to the high demand for their skin and meat.
