Habitantes de Providencia y Santa Catalina recibieron atención integral y donaciones

During two days, about 2,600 cases were attended in different medical specialties, 33 surgical procedures were conducted and 165 glasses were distributed, which improved the quality of life of children, young people and older adults from both islands.

Adverse weather conditions were no impediment for more than 90 health professionals and volunteers to arrive at the islands of Providencia and Santa Catalina, aboard the ARC Almirante Tono Ship of the Colombian Navy, to provide free of charge medical assistance and provide donations to children, young people and elderly people of the insular department.

During two days, at the Junín School, about 2,600 cases were assisted, in specialties such as: optometry, mastology, family medicine, dentistry, maxillofacial surgery, dermatology, psychology and nutrition, within the framework of a development support activity led by the Colombian Navy, the Colombian Aerospace Force and Colombian National Army, in which smiles and beauty took on an essential role.

In addition, donations of medicines, backpacks, toiletries, school supplies, clothing and toys were made, which brought joy to dozens of families. This is how Ariany Stephens, a resident of the islands who benefited from this activity, expressed: “I was delighted that the brigade arrived because through them one can get all kinds of specialists without having to go to another island or go out to the city.”

Meanwhile, the Fundación Colombiana Ganadera - FUNDAGÁN, thanks to the logistical support provided by the Colombian Navy, distributed more than two tons of powdered milk to families living in Providencia and Santa Catalina, contributing to food security in this area of the country that is still in the process of reconstruction after the transit of Hurricane Iota.
