In the presentation of the results of the operations, the President of the Republic, Iván Duque, highlighted that “in this case 116 tons have already been found in this first half of 2021, and more than 780 laboratories in the same way were destroyed”.

He said that “the coordinated, multilateral struggle embodied in Operation Orion, in the seventh phase, is the capacity of all countries to understand that together we can be more effective to deal with drug trafficking.”

He in the same way highlighted that, “clearly, if we had not had this international instrument of cooperation, of coordination, of standard-setting, we would have seen millions of people die” because of “the consumption of drugs throughout the world”.

President Iván Duque highlighted on Tuesday the results of the Orion VII Naval Campaign, a multinational strategy against drug trafficking in which 38 countries participate.

“This seventh phase shows that united we are invincible to face this situations of transnational drug trafficking,” said the Head of State at the event held in the Bolivar Hall of the Casa de Nariño.

Before diplomatic representatives and military commanders of the participating nations, the President said that “the most important thing about Operation Orion is that this is a multinational work: 38 countries united to find drugs, dismantle Cartels, to dismantle laboratories.”

In that sense, he added that “the coordinated, multilateral fight that embodies this operation Orion, in seventh phase, is the capacity of all countries to understand that together we can be more effective to deal with drug trafficking”.

Confiscations

In this regard, he said that “there have been, in this case, 116 tons found in this first half of 2021, [and] more than 780 laboratories in the same way destroyed.”

He explained that “we have never before seen so many successes in finding tons of cocaine hydrochloride, among other drugs, as we have seen in this task.”

Therefore, he highlighted, “the results, especially of this last phase, are in the same way very important; phase by phase, we have been improving”.

In the same way, he considered that “these two facts show the decisiveness of the intelligence that is shared and, above all, have to do with doses that will not be provided in the streets of our countries” which ratifies “the commitment of a comprehensive fight against drug trafficking.”

Referring to the fight against drug trafficking, he said that, “clearly, if we had not had this international instrument of cooperation, coordination, and standard-setting, we would have seen millions of people die” because “of drug use throughout the world. And, second, we would very likely have seen many emerging economy activities weakened absolutely by the corruption capacity of the drug Cartels,” he said.

For that reason, he said, “we believe that the Orion Campaign must continue, and must continue ever stronger and ever integrating more nations, it becomes, as it has already done, the most important multinational drug finding and fighting operation in history.”
