Through these results, the Naval Institution prevented the marketing of more than 580 thousand doses of narcotics on the streets of the world.
Coast Guard units of the Colombian Navy, during operations against the transnational crime of drug trafficking, found more than 235 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, hidden on board two cargo ships for maritime transport, which were in an anchoring area near Santa Marta – Magdalena.
The operation began, when information was received about the possible contamination with drugs to two boats from Europe, so, immediately, two Rapid Reaction Units - URR of the Coast Guard Station of Santa Marta were sent, which in a few minutes arrived at the area where the cargo ships were to start with the visit and search procedures.
In the first boat, three sacks containing 46 packages with characteristics similar to those used for drug trafficking were found by troops. In the second boat, two people were found by troops hidden in one of its compartments, along with six sacks with 200 rectangular packages.
The arrested and the illegal goods were taken to a safe port by the Coast Guard units, where officials of the Technical Investigation Corps – CTI of the Attorney General's Office, conducted the Approved Preliminary Identification Test - PIPH, determining that it was 235 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride. It is estimated that these shipments would cost approximately eight million dollars in the international illegal market. The two individuals were put into custody of the authority.
