In the course of River operations on the Amazon River, the Colombian Navy, with the support of intelligence from the National Army, intercepted two tug-type vessels in the municipality of El Encanto, Amazonas, carrying contraband merchandise with different alcoholic beverages and beauty products, valued at 50 million pesos.

During the first interception made to the tug boat Cruz Amazonas, the troops of the Fluvial Battalion of Marine Infantry No.30, found hidden in the middle of the compartments 1,514 liters of different types of liquor, including vodka, rum, wine, and additionally 3,530 units of combing cream, 45 units of shampoo and 460 boxes of candies. The transporter of the confiscated material could not justify the origin of the merchandise valued at 44,500,000 pesos, as he did not have legal support for it.

On the other hand, the captain of the tug, noticing the work of the military personnel at the checkpoint, tried to evade the operation without success; during the inspection, 244 liters of beer, rum, wine, vodka and champagne liquor were found, of which he did not carry the documentation validating the legality of purchase. The confiscated material would cost 5,029,800 pesos.

According to intelligence work, it was possible to determine that the seized merchandise came from Brazil and was going to be distributed in Puerto As铆s, Putumayo. The material was put into custody of the Directorate of national taxes and Customs.
