Ship ARC Caribe sailed with more than 100 tons of aid for San Andr茅s and Providencia

After completing its first operation in the Colombian Caribbean, the multipurpose ship ARC Caribe of the General Maritime Directorate set sail for the islands of San Andr茅s and Providencia to support the reconstruction of the archipelago and the improvement of the quality of life of the inhabitants of the islands.

 

The crew made up of 38 men and women, attached to the Oceanographic and Hydrographic Research Center (CIOH), will transport 101.9 tons of humanitarian aid and construction materials donated by public and private institutions in order to restore the conditions of the island.

 

In addition, a rapid reaction boat will be transported to the Coast Guard Station of the Colombian Navy, which, within the framework of Operation Renacer (reconstruction operation) and in coordination with national institutions, has support uninterruptedly the recovery work of the archipelago.

 

The ship ARC Caribe, which has the objective to support marine scientific research operations, maritime rescue, cargo transport and humanitarian assistance, will also support the topographic analysis of the coastline of the beach in the sector of Agua Dulce.

 

This ship is part of the units that the General Maritime Directorate has deployed in this region, where the ships ARC Malpelo and ARC Roncador have also supported the reconstruction process through the highest standards of quality, science and technology to safeguard human life and to provide maritime security and humanitarian support.
