* The illegal merchandise would have been destined for Central America and was being transported on board two go fast type boats.

* With the finding of this narcotic, more than 1,562,500 doses of cocaine and 26 thousand of marijuana will no longer be marketed on the streets of the world.

* The drug found will be destroyed in accordance with the provisions of Colombian legislation in the coming days.

In two joint operations carried out in 48 hours, by units of the Colombian Navy and the Colombian Air Force, 625 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride and 157 kilograms of marijuana were found by troops. The narcotics were being transported aboard two go fast type boats in the waters of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina.

The finds took place at the moment when a Maritime unit of the Naval Aviation of the Colombian Navy and an Aircraft of the Colombian Air Force, carried out a detailed follow-up to these two suspicious ships transiting through the waters of San Andrés with the intention of reaching Central America.

Once the course of the boats had been identified, a Maritime Task Force consisting of the Missile Frigate ARC Caldas and two Rapid Reaction Units - URR of the Coast Guard of San Andrés were deployed in the area, in order to carry out maritime interception procedures.

In the first event, the individuals who manned the suspicious boat, noticing the existence of the authorities, left the illegal merchandise at sea and started escaping. Immediately, crew members of the Colombian Navy recovered 11 sacks with 275 rectangular packages inside of the water, which were transported to the island of San Andrés to conduct a detailed review of them.

Subsequently, the second boat with two people on board was detected by the military aircraft, so another URR was deployed about 252 kilometers south of the island of San Andrés to carry out the maritime interception, finding inside suspicious packages. The crew and equipment were taken to the Coast Guard Station of San Andrés for violation of Merchant Navy regulations and for a detailed inspection.

Once on land, crew members of the Naval Institution found rectangular packages in the barrels and in hidden compartments inside the hull of the second boat, for which, in coordination with the Technical Investigation Corps - CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office and the Judicial Police - SIJIN (judicial police), the Approved Preliminary Identification Test - PIPH was carried out on the substances contained in the packages, leaving positive result for 625 of cocaine hydrochloride and 157 kilograms of marijuana.

This shipment would cost approximately 22,067,300 dollars in the international illegal market; the two arrested were put into custody of the Attorney General's Office and the Judicial Police.
