Sloth returns to its natural habitat in Chocó Department thanks to the Colombian Navy

cogfm-armada-de-colombia-regresa-a-su-habitat-natural-oso-perezoso-11.jpg

The Colombian Navy, ratifying its commitment to the preservation of the fauna and flora in the Colombian Caribbean, managed to provide support to a specimen of two-toed sloth (Choloepus didactylus) in the municipality of Sapzurro, Department of Chocó, and return it to its natural habitat.

The Urabá Coast Guard crew members found the mammal in a defenseless state in an area near the Sapzurro. Coast Guards were conducting a Naval Checkpoint. Protection and surveillance of the animal were provided until they verified that they were in good condition to be returned to its natural habitat.

Then, the navy men of Colombia released it following the protocols established by the environmental authority , taking into account that this animal is adapted to live, eat, sleep, mate and raise its families in the treetops.

Given the richness in biodiversity found in this region of Urabá, the Colombian Navy makes a special call to the people to contribute to the protection of these wild animals, preventing their hunting, illegal trafficking and pollution of the environment where they live.
