Marandúa photovoltaic solar field, in the department of Vichada, represents an example of energy transition and the strengthening of sustainable activities in the region. The project is executed under the direction of Empresas Públicas de Medellín, EPM, and currently reaches a 72% progress in its construction.
Through this initiative, it is intended that the Eastern Air Group, GAORI, will be the first Air Military Unit that ensures 99.98% of the total operation with solar energy, through the installation of 5,445 new solar panels, which currently complement the 960 already existing within the Unit, which will progressively replace the use of fossil fuels until the implementation is completed in December 2025, thus contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, one of the main factors of climate change.
With the execution of this project, the energy capacity of the GAORI is being strengthened, which will be able to provide energy day and night to different equipment and receivers, thus leading the sustainability of military operations of the Unit and its integration into a more efficient and environmentally partnerly generation model. It is in the same way consolidated as an example of energy transformation in the Colombian Orinoquia region, projecting a positive impact for the region.
This initiative of the Colombian Aerospace Force represents the institutional responsibility for energy efficiency and the reduction of dependence on fossil fuels, thus reaffirming the commitment to environmental protection, technological modernization and the implementation of sustainable solutions that contribute to the well-being of present and future generations, fulfilling the mission of protecting Colombians.
