Soldiers in the department of Boyacá sow life and strengthen environmental protection

Soldados en Boyacá siembran vida y fortalecen la protección ambiental

As part of the commemoration of World Environment Day, the First Brigade of Colombian National Army, through its different battalions, participated in reforestation and ecosystem recovery activities in different municipalities of Boyacá, reaffirming its commitment to the protection of natural resources.

The activities are carried out in coordination with local authorities, environmental institutions, private companies, foundations and communities, and the planting of more than 10,000 plants of different native specimens took place.

In the village of El Porvenir, in Tunja, a reforestation activity was carried out led by the Boyacá Governorate, the Mayor's Office of Tunja, Veolia and environmental organizations, with the purpose of contributing to the mitigation of environmental damage and strengthening the vegetation cover of the region. Similarly, the Chiquinquirá Polo Park supported the planting of 6,000 native trees, including oaks and cedars. The activity was attended by the National Police, the Regional Autonomous Corporation CAR, the Colombian Central cleaning company, children, parents and elderly of the Vida Center.

In the El Salitre sector, municipality of Paipa, the soldiers participated in the planting of 200 plants specimens in an area affected by deforestation processes, contributing to the recovery of this important ecosystem. In the same way, in the El Chuscal Reserve, in the village of El Tobal in the municipality of El Espino, a special activity was carried out together with the Cumbres Blancas Foundation of Colombia, where 2,350 frailejones (Espeletia lopezii), a fundamental specimen for the conservation of the paramos and the protection of water sources, were planted.
