Soldiers of the National Army promote the care of the environment

More than 295,000 seedlings have been planted in the region this year, a figure that increased compared to 2021, when 122,000 seedlings were planted.

Within the framework of the Perseo Plan, the National Army, with the aim of contributing to environmental development and countering the deterioration of natural resources, through the units of the Twelfth Brigade, has been carrying out inter-institutional operations with environmental institutions to contribute to the protection and care of the Colombian Amazon.

Organizations such as Corpozamazonía have joined this effort, an institution with which important environmental activities have been led throughout the department of Caquetá, where more than 295,000 seedlings have been planted, prioritizing areas hit by deforestation, a problem that mostly disturbs the tropical humid forests of the Amazon. In the same way, about 25 checkpoints have been built on the department's roads, a measure carried out to prevent crimes such as wildlife trafficking, which puts Colombia's natural resources at risk.

Thanks to this coordinated work and with the collaboration of the National Learning Service (Sena) and the International Bamboo and Rattan organization (Inbar), training activities have been carried out for officers, non-commissioned officers and soldiers of the different battalions of the brigade, on environmental management issues and sustainable management of the guadua (cane) and bamboo, encouraging in the military Forces the development of new Resources at the service of the country.

In addition, in our commitment to the preservation of natural wealth, the Twelfth Brigade already has 12 forest nurseries that produce the necessary plant material for environmental compensation, the beautification of military units and provide support to local environmental authorities in reforestation and ecological restoration processes.

To date, each nursery has a production capacity of about 20,000 seedlings and those in the municipalities of San Vicente del Caguán and Puerto Rico stand out, due to their extensive agronomic facilities.
