As part of a high-impact military operation, National Army troops dealt a powerful blow to the residual organized armed group, GAO-r, a Dagoberto Ramos structure that commits crimes in the border area between the departments of Cauca and Huila, damaging its logistical, armed and criminal resources with important results in favor of the security of the southwest of the country.
The operation took place in the San Vicente village of the municipality of Inzá, department of Cauca, as a result of an inter-institutional and joint work, in which troops of the Ninth Brigade participated, through the Direct operation and Reconnaissance Battalion N.° 5 of the Rapid Deployment Force N.° 5, in coordination with the Aviation Mobility and Maneuver Battalion N.° 5, the Air Combat Command N.° 4 of the Colombian Aerospace Force, and with the accompaniment of the Elite Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of the National Police and the Attorney General's Office, in charge of immediate acts and prosecution.
The operation, supported by military intelligence information and special reconnaissance, led to accurately establishing the location of members of this residual GAO.
As a result, a member of the aforementioned structure was neutralized and weapons and military accessories were found by troops, as follows: a 5.56 mm caliber rifle, 125 rifle cartridges, two magazines, two 60 mm hand grenades, a multipurpose vest, communications devices and garments for exclusive use by the Military Forces.
This result represents a direct damage to the armed, logistical and financial capacity of the gang, weakening its intention to expand towards the south of the country and reducing its margin of operation to carry out activities such as extortion, drug trafficking, kidnapping and forced recruitment, especially of minors. It in the same way contributes to safeguarding the rights of rural communities, particularly children, in the face of systematic threats.
Through this military operation, Colombian National Army, through the Fifth Division, the Ninth Brigade and the recently incorporated Rapid Deployment Force No. 5, reaffirms its commitment to the protection of life, human rights and security in the southwest of the country, always acting within the framework of legality and with absolute respect for International Humanitarian Law.
