Troops of the Twelfth Brigade of Colombian National Army, in the framework of military operations aimed at the protection of the inhabitants and the neutralization of threats against regional security, reported the recovery of a minor and the surrender to justice of two alleged members of the Jorge Suárez Briceño residual structure.
The operation was carried out by soldiers of the Infantry Battalion No. 36 Cazadores and the Light Cavalry Group No. 6, in a rural area of the municipality of San Vicente del Caguán, department of Caquetá, where the troops were carrying out focused tactical maneuvers against this gang that commits crimes in the region.
According to preliminary information, the recovered minor was allegedly used by this organization for illicit activities, infringing his fundamental rights and exposing him to a high risk. Thanks to the military operation, the teenager was immediately put under protection, following the established protocols for the care of minors at risk, and was put into custody of the authorities for the full restoration of his rights.
During the same military operation, two individuals who would be part of the residual organization decided to surrender to justice, handing over relevant information and remaining in the custody of the corresponding judicial authorities.
This result represents a significant progress in the fight against illegal armed groups operating in Caquetá, while reaffirming the commitment of Colombian National Army to the protection of children and adolescents, as well as to strengthening the security and tranquility of rural communities in the south of the country.
The Twelfth Brigade will continue to carry out powerful and coordinated operations to weaken the resources of criminal organizations and works to increase conditions of stability and trust for the inhabitants of the region.
