So far this year, the units of the Pacific Naval Force have safeguarded the lives of 11 people, who have been rescued in different emergencies in the seas and rivers of the coast.
The timely reaction of the Coast Guard Units of the Colombian Navy led to the rescue of three fishermen who were adrift in the Nariño Pacific waters, after the boat in which these were carrying out rudimentary fishing had a mechanical failure.
The search and rescue operation began minutes after the crew of the boat Tico, reported the emergency to the Maritime Traffic and Control Station of the General Maritime Directorate. Immediately, a Rapid Reaction Unit of the Tumaco Coast Guard Station was sent to the position said by the fishermen, approximately four kilometers of the Tumaco sea buoy, where they were found by troops and rescued.
At the time of the rescue, the Coast Guard members verified the health status of the three people, who were in good condition. Subsequently, the ship and the rescued personnel were taken to the port of Tumaco.
“We are here in the Coast Guard Unit, thanks to them we are on land, we went out on a fishing trip for a night practically and we got adrift, and Coast Guard rescued us. We thank them for their collaboration, for being aware of the seafarers” said one of the rescued.
For his part, the Commander of the Coast Guard Station, Lieutenant Commander Mario Navas Estévez, highlighted that: “The Coast Guard Units and their crews are continuously working by permanent controls and patrols, safeguarding the life of civilians at sea. It is important that when sailing they use the security elements and put us on immediate notice of any situation that puts their life and that of others at risk.”
