Troops of the 31st Brigade neutralize explosives in the rainforest area of the department of Vaupés

Tropas de la Brigada 31 neutralizan explosivos en zona selvática del Vaupés

Within the framework of the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan and in fulfillment of the constitutional mission of protecting the inhabitants, troops of the Rainforest Battalion No. 52 Coronel José Dolores Solano, attached to the 31st Rainforest Brigade, neutralized two improvised explosive devices in a rural area of the municipality of Caruru, department of Vaupés.

The operation was made possible thanks to the timely warning by people about the presence of suspicious elements in a wooded area. Thanks to intelligence work and the quick reaction of the soldiers, it was possible to find the devices, including a balloon type one, loaded with approximately 8 kilograms of explosives and shrapnel, which posed a serious threat to the inhabitants and to the troops in the region.

According to what was established, the explosives would have been planted by alleged members of the Armando Ríos Group, with the intention of attacking units of the National Army and generating fear and causing strikes. Through this operation, a direct threat to safety and life in the municipality is neutralized.

The Fourth Division of Colombian National Army reiterates its unwavering commitment to the protection of Colombians and invites citizens to continue collaborating with the authorities, denouncing any suspicious event or the presence of illegal armed actors. The union among the community, the institutions and the troops is key to consolidating peace and development in Vaupés.
