Colombia activated its strategic air resources to bring vital assistance to Venezuela, on board two C-130 Hercules aircraft of the Colombian Aerospace Force, FAC, 26 tons of humanitarian aid were transported, including a field hospital, specialist doctors and supplies to strengthen the care of the communities affected by the earthquake reported in that country.
The operation was carried out on the Bogotá – Cali – Maiquetía – Bogotá route, enabling the transfer of medicines, hospital supplies, equipment and essential elements for the construction of a field hospital with the capacity to provide support for up to 150 patients a day for two months, operated by 35 professionals of the Emergency Medical Team (EMT) Colombia.
On the first flight, medicines, 1,000 bags for the dignified handling of corpses, 5,000 face masks and 12 hospital beds were transported, while the second aircraft took 15 tons of medical equipment, stretchers and other elements necessary for the installation of the hospital.
This mission represents a new phase of Colombia's humanitarian support to Venezuela, after completing the search and rescue efforts carried out by the USAR COL-1 team, now concentrating efforts on strengthening the health care of the affected inhabitants.
Through this deployment, the Colombian Aerospace Force reaffirms its strategic air mobility capacity at the service of the country, projecting its means to support international humanitarian assistance and contribute to the Colombian State's response to emergencies that require rapid and coordinated action of the National Personnel Recovery Center of the FAC.
