In the framework of the Bicentenary Campaign Plan Heroes de Libertad, two simultaneous efforts were carried out through a joint, coordinated and inter-agency operation to deal a powerful blow against the illegal economy resulting of the exploitation of mining deposits in the Department of Cauca.

The air support of the Colombian Air Force, in coordination with troops of the National Army, the National Police and the accompaniment of the Attorney General's Office, led to the intervention of illegal mines and mining production units in the municipality of Lopez de Micay and Timba, in Cauca, used for this criminal modality that significantly hits the biodiversity and natural resources of the sector.

These actions would be conducted by the Organized Armed Group, Residual structure Sixth, mobile column, Jaime Martínez and Organized Armed Group Eln, front José María Becerra. In the place, troops destroyed three backhoes, three industrial engines, a classifier, 11 mines and 14 production units, machinery and equipment that would cost 2,500 million pesos. This result reduces environmental impacts of deforestation, sedimentation of soil in 30 hectares and pollution of the Rio Micay.
