This year 2024, 32 people have been arrested for the crime of extortion in the Colombian Amazonas region.
Within the framework of military operations, troops of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) Caquetá, in coordination with the Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) Policía Caquetá, carried out the arrest of two individuals, alleged members of the Residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r, Teófilo Forero Structure, armed and finance group under the command of alias El Burro, as well as the recovery of a minor, who apparently had been in this criminal group for about a year.
The operation was carried out in the village of La Esmeralda, sector Bajo San Gil, rural area of the municipality of Florencia, where the troops engaged a firefight against this structure, which resulted in one of these individuals wounded, who was Immediately assisted by a combat nurse, and who was evacuated to the Maria Inmaculada Hospital in the city of Florencia.
It is important to mention that this group would be intimidating merchants, ranchers and inhabitants in general to pay extortions, a source of financing for these illegal groups.
During the operation, 2 rifles, 15 magazines, abundant war ammunition, food and military accessories material for the exclusive use of the Military Forces were found by troops.
