Two municipalities of Meta were declared free of suspicion of antipersonnel mines

Meta. Fuentedeoro and Villavicencio are the new municipalities of the department of Meta that today enjoy the benefit of having their lands free of the suspicion of antipersonnel mines.

The Non-Technical Studies work that led to the liberation of these municipalities from contamination was carried out by soldiers of the Humanitarian Demining Engineers Battalion No. 4 who conducted their operation, guarded by troops of the Seventh Brigade attached to the Fourth Division.

In the capital city of Meta, the members of the Non-Technical Studies teams investigated and canceled 27 events where 22 victims of antipersonnel mines had been reported. This is how 61 hamlets were inspected, freeing 32,402 square meters.

For its part, in Fuentedeoro, three hamlets where there were three reports of incidents or accidents were investigated, thus 3,944 square meters were reported.

In the two municipalities, 11 meetings were carried out, where the inhabitants expressed to the soldiers that they had no knowledge of the presence of explosive devices in the region. In the same way, the meetings guided citizens on safe behaviors when finding possible risks with antipersonnel mines.

To date the mine clearance specialists have declared the municipalities of Guamal, Cumaral and now Villavicencio and Fuentedeoro, decontaminated territories. Now we have 4 territories in the department.
