The Colombian Navy through the Santa Marta Coast Guard Station, in a joint work with the National Army, carried out a cleaning activity, during the weekend, on the beaches around the mouth of the Manzanares River, an area that product of heavy rains and the rising of the river, received the waste that reached the sector that connects with the bay of Santa Marta, polluting the environment.

As part of the main functions as custodians of the environment, this initiative involves collecting different kinds of waste such as cans, plastics and bottles, among others. At the end of the environmental activity, the collection was verified and the extraction of all the material stored in garbage hoppers was carried out, which were subsequently taken to the city landfills.

With this activity, the Santa Marta Coast Guard Station will have a positive social, economic, tourist and environmental impact, taking into account the multiple benefits that this activity entails for the ecosystem and the environment. The activity culminated with the collection of about two tons of solid waste, giving an encouraging result for ecotourism in the city.
