The Colombian Aerospace Force, through the Air Maintenance Command - CAMAN, carried out a planting activity of 300 trees in the village of El Chuzcal, on Manjui Hill, in the municipality of Zipacón, Cundinamarca.
This activity was carried out in coordination with the Telefónica Movistar Foundation, the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cundinamarca (CAR), the El Chuzcal Aqueduct Users Association and the Nuestra Tierra Sociocultural Foundation. Once the most suitable tree specimens were selected according to the climate, the type of soil and the available space, an area of land with good solar exposure, natural drainage and enough space for its growth was chosen. Subsequently, the area was prepared by removing weeds and stones, and holes twice the size of the root ball of each tree were dug, where they were planted and covered with earth to ensure their firmness.
The activity aims to contribute to the protection of the Pil river basin and the El Arrayán spring, a source of water supply for the El Chuzcal and Puerto Rico hamlets of the municipality of Zipacón, Cundinamarca, for this reason, a follow-up with regular maintenance is foreseen, which includes irrigation, pruning and fertilization, strengthening the sense of belonging and the care of green spaces.
Through these operations, the Colombian Aerospace Force reaffirms its commitment to environmental protection, through the holding of environmental education workshops focused on ecosystem services and the valuation of natural resources. All this with the purpose of involving the inhabitants of the Western Sábana region in the construction of sustainable, clean and ecological spaces for the well-being of the entire community.
