Thanks to the commitment, solidarity and coordinated work for the wellbeing of the most vulnerable communities in the country, the Support Command of Comprehensive operation and Development and the Minuto de Dios Corporation collected and distributed six tons of humanitarian aid to the inhabitants of Simit铆, south of Bol铆var, severely hit by the recent wave caused by rains.
The emergency originated due to the overflow of the Magdalena River, which has left multiple losses to houses, roads and plantations in the municipality of Simit铆, south of the department of Bol铆var and neighboring municipalities.
Faced with this situation, the Minuto de Dios Corporation gathered non-perishable food, toilet kits and clothing, destined for hundreds of families who are facing a humanitarian crisis today.
The distribution of these aids represented a great logistical challenge as they were transported for two days in vehicles of the Rainforest Battalion N潞 48, of the 19th Brigade of Colombian National Army, with the support of the Mayor's Office of Simit铆, to the municipality of Puerto Wilches, Santander, from where they were later transported by river across the Magdalena River in a flatbed that took them to their final destination: Simit铆, Bol铆var.
There, representatives of the Minuto de Dios Corporation and soldiers of the Comprehensive operation and Development Support Battalion No. 1 made the distribution to the community.
The situation has been classified as critical by the governor of Bolivar, Yamil Arana, who in recent statements warned that this problem in the region is not only due to the intense rains, but has a much more complex background. The environmental disaster in the south of Bol铆var, according to the local president, is in the same way a direct consequence of illegal mining, carried out criminally by organized armed groups that, in addition to putting the safety of communities at risk, are destroying rivers and rainforests.
Faced with this scenario, Colombian National Army reaffirms its commitment to the inhabitants and continues to work on environmental protection, disaster mitigation and immediate response to humanitarian emergencies, supported by strategic alliances with institutions such as the Minuto de Dios Corporation.
