The voluntary surrender of eight members of the GAO Clan del Golfo in the department of Chocó

Ejército Nacional logra el sometimiento voluntario de ocho integrantes del Clan del Golfo en Chocó

This result contributes to reducing the risk factors and instability that these criminal structures generate in the inhabitants.

Within the framework of the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan and within the framework of military operations, troops of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of the department of Chocó, of the Fifteenth Brigade of Colombian National Army, in coordination with the National Police, reported the surrender to justice of eight members of the armed component of the Leonidas de la Rosa Vásquez substructure, who commits crimes in the Baudó region and is part of the organized armed group, GAO, Clan del Golfo.

In the municipality of Alto Baudó, department of Chocó, and as a result of the pressure exerted through the military operations carried out in the area, these eight men decided to voluntarily surrender to justice, expressing their intention to avail themselves of the corresponding process. During the procedure, they requested measures for their life and personal integrity.

As part of this result of the military operation, war elements such as eight rifles, four Galil AR, two AK-47, one 7.62 mm caliber FAL and one M4 were found. In the same way, 19 magazines of different calibers, 1,492 rounds of ammunition, a base radio and two squad-type communication radios were seized. In the same way, abundant elements and military accessories were found by troops.

The confiscation of these elements significantly affects the armed, logistical and criminal resources of this criminal structure, limiting its illegal acts in the region.

During the operation, the troops acted through strict adherence to human rights and international humanitarian law, working for the life, integrity and dignity of the individuals, in accordance with the principles and institutional values that guide the actions of Colombian National Army.

The men were put into custody of the authority and the established legal procedures are being carried out to link them to the process of surrender to justice, in coordination with the Humanitarian Assistance Group for the Demobilized (GAHD) of the Ministry of National Defense.
