The illicit items were transported by five individuals in a Go Fast type boat that would have sailed from the Colombian Caribbean coasts.
The illicit merchandise that apparently belongs to the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo has a price of more than 120 million dollars.
The timely deployment of the Colombian Navy's military operation leads to the interception of a Go Fast type ship in which five men from San Andres were planning to transport 3,121 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride to Central America.
A Maritime Patrol Aircraft of the Colombian Navy, which permanently monitors the waters of the greater Colombian Caribbean from the sky, was in charge of detecting the suspicious ship that was sailing north, so a Coast Guard Rapid Reaction Unit was immediately deployed to the area, which was guided by the aircraft.
Despite the difficult meteorological conditions that are being reported in the region these days, the Coast Guard unit intercepted the speedboat about 100 nautical miles from Cartagena, preventing the individuals from carrying the illicit substance to Central America, where it is presumed that it would be its destination.
After securing the ship, the personnel and the illicit elements, the ARC Almirante Padilla Missile Frigate arrived in the area to support the operation and accompany the transit of the same to the city of Cartagena to carry out the judicial process with the authorities.
Once in the safe harbor, the health status of the five arrested was verified and the Approved Preliminary Identification Test was conducted on the 3,112 packages that were hidden in 124 sacks, which left positive result for 3,121 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, which would cost more than 120 million dollars.
Hours earlier, on the Island of San Bernardo, the crew of a Rapid Reaction Unit of the Cartagena Coast Guard Station, which was conducting control patrols in the area, identified a suspicious ship hidden in a mangrove swamp.
The abandoned boat was towed to the Coast Guard Station of Cartagena for a thorough inspection, in which a double-bottomed hidden compartment was detected in which 474 rectangular packages with characteristics similar to those of cocaine hydrochloride were found by troops.
The elements were put into custody of the Attorney General's Office, who, through the implementation of technical tests, confirmed that it was 474 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.
