In waters of the South Pacific of Nariño, the Colombian Navy seized a ship with more than 500 cubic meters of wood

En el Pacífico sur nariñense, Armada de Colombia incautó embarcación con más de 500 metros cúbicos de madera

Working for the protection and conservation of natural resources, the Colombian Navy through the Navy Infantry Brigade No.4, within the framework of river operations, seized 585 cubic meters of wood, which would be being transported illegally in the municipality of Tumaco, department of Nariño.

The operation began when crewmembers of Navy Infantry Brigade No.4 detected a boat manned by four Colombians, which was traveling in a suspicious manner. When boarding and inspecting the ship, it was evident that they were towing wooden elements, 836 slats, corresponding to 585 cubic meters.

Faced with the requirement of the legal documents required by the environmental authority for the transportation and commercialization of forest products, the crew members stated that they did not have the laissez-passer issued by the Regional Autonomous Corporation, which are mandatory according to current environmental regulations.

After the review, the ship, its crew and the items found, were taken to the dock of the Port Authority of Tumaco, where they were put into custody of the authorities for the respective prosecution process.

These arrests represent a positive result for the environment, by stopping the illegal trafficking of wood from indiscriminate logging, an activity that accelerates deforestation, causes the loss of biodiversity and generates serious effects on the strategic ecosystems of the Colombian Pacific.
