Sandra Milena Micán Castañeda is a 30-year-old woman, originally from Abejorral Antioquia, diagnosed from an early age with an orphan disease not very common in people.
She has had to spend her entire life hidden behind tumors that hide her face and so she has not seen beyond what her mind imagines, although her smile is extinguished by the disease, she carries within her an incalculable nobility and an infinite kindness for God and his angels.
The Colombian Air Force through the Air Combat Command No. 5, CACOM 5, learned about this case thanks to a retired Non-Commissioned officer of the Institution and a regional media where a social influencer sought a way to make this situation visible to join efforts and help.
Immediately and without hesitation, Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers of the Comprehensive operation of CACOM 5 contacted Dr. Juan Carlos Velez Lara, one of the most recognized plastic surgeons in the country and the city of Medellin to explain the case to him. Sensitive and dismayed by Sandra's situation, Dr. Vélez decided to help on a non-profit basis, with the only satisfaction of changing her life and giving her back a million hopes.
On Tuesday, November 5, the first of the four surgeries required for Sandra's face will be conducted at the Interquirofanos clinic and the Colombian Air Force personnel will be there accompanying her to provide all the support she requires.
