Women soldiers of Colombian National Army support humanitarian activities in Montería

Soldados mujeres del Ejército Nacional apoyan jornadas humanitarias en Montería

In an immediate response to the emergency of rains that crosses the department of Córdoba, a platoon of women soldiers of Colombian National Army arrived in the city of Montería. The mission is to support the safety and success of the priority medical assistance activity aimed at the hundreds of people who are currently in temporary shelters.

This humanitarian action is the result of a coordinated effort conducted by the Mayor's Office of Montería, community leaders and the Comprehensive Action resources of Colombian National Army, with the fundamental support of the Military Hospital and the Nueva Granada Military University, whose professionals traveled from Bogotá to provide support in the crisis.

Major Bryan Durango, Comprehensive Action Officer of Colombian National Army, led the deployment highlighting the importance of social service and empathy in these critical moments. During the formation of the troops, the officer gave clear instructions on the mystique and professionalism necessary to provide support in the inhabitants:

"Today our mission is the shelter of the Mercedes Ábrego School, where we have approximately 320 people. We need dedication, commitment and professionalism in the accompaniment of the doctors of the Military University Foundation. It is necessary for us to help, to understand and to take by the hand the brothers of Cordoba who are in that shelter today," said Major Durango.

Colombian National Army reported that, during the first day of intervention, significant figures were possible that directly improve the quality of life of those hit by rains: 237 medical assistances were provided in general consultation services, pediatrics, gynecology and surgery. Specialized psychological support for families who have lost their elements. Pedagogical activities and distribution of snacks for children and adolescents, seeking to mitigate the emotional impact of the emergency were also distributed.

Beyond the fixed shelters such as the Mercedes Ábrego I.E. and the San José I.E., the platoon of soldiers and the medical mission made tours of the most hited neighborhoods of Montería. The objective was to identify latent health vulnerabilities and ensure that no family is left without institutional support.
