The joint and coordinated operation demonstrates the commitment and effectiveness of the State institutions in the fight against illegal armed groups. In a joint operation conducted by troops of the Infantry Battalion No. 4 General Antonio Nariño of the Nineteenth Brigade, units of the First Division of Colombian National Army stationed in the south of Bolívar, the Aerospace Force and units of the National Police, a serious blow was dealt to the structure of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo in the village Las Delicias, municipality of Altos del Rosario, Bolívar.
The operation was carried out through intelligence work that led to the finding of an illegal hiding place belonging to the Edwin José Sierra Regino substructure of the Clan del Golfo, which operates under the command of alias Aristides Meza Páez.
During the operation, the following military equipment was seized: 812 cartridges of different calibers, six high-powered rifles (three AK-47, one FAL and two R-15), magazines, launch mechanisms, water bottles and camouflage fabric.
In addition, 31 bracelets with the initials EGC (Gaitanista Army of Colombia) were found by troops, used by the criminal organization to identify itself and frighten the community. This result has a direct and positive impact on the security of the municipality of Altos del Rosario, since it dismantles the logistical and weapons capacity of the GAO Clan del Golfo. The finding of this arsenal prevents these weapons from being used to commit extortion, homicide and other criminal activities that put the safety and tranquility of the inhabitants in the region at risk.
