In the Pacific region of the department of Chocó, a marijuana shipment allegedly belonging to the GAO Clan del Golfo was found

En el Pacífico chocoano, hallado cargamento de marihuana perteneciente presuntamente al GAO ‘Clan del golfo’

Within the framework of the operations carried out by the Colombian Navy against transnational drug trafficking crime in the department of Chocó, it was possible to find a ton of marijuana, which would be valued at more than 12 million dollars. The cargo allegedly belonged to the Organized Armed Group – GAO, Clan del Golfo, the main criminal structure in this region.

Thanks to information from Naval Intelligence, which alerted about a possible illegal narcotics cargo in the Cupica Bay, in the municipality of Bahía Solano, troops of the Navy Infantry Battalion No. 23 and units of the Bahia Solano Coast Guard Station, moved to the area, in order to carry out the relevant review.

Once the investigation was carried out, 46 bags were found by troops that apparently contained illicit substances, which were taken to facilities of the Naval Institution, where personnel of the Judicial and Criminal Investigation Section - SIJIN (JUDICIAL POLICE), carried out the Approved Preliminary Identification Test, determining that it was 1,156 kilograms of marijuana, which were hidden in 1,190 packages. The item was put into custody of the authorities.

The finding of this illegal merchandise prevented the entry of more than 12 million dollars into the finances of criminal organizations, as well as the marketing of more than 190 thousand doses of narcotics in illegal markets, significantly hitting the finances of illegal armed groups in this area of the country.
