The Colombian Navy in the Pacific is constantly strengthening its maritime security and river control operations, after the mid-year holiday season and during the whale watching that will last until November, in order to contribute to the preservation of these specimens, as well as the good physical condition of tourists and inhabitants of the region, who at this time go to sea, to appreciate this phenomenon of nature.
These mammals travel about 8,500 kilometers from Antarctica to the Colombian Pacific to mate and give birth to their young, due to its warm waters and the absence of predators that attack their calves, with which they return to Antarctica when they have grown up a little and learned certain behaviors for their development.
Bahía Málaga is known as the humpback whale incubator, due to the tranquility of the area and the ideal environment for the reproduction and birth processes of these specimens, in this region they in the same way coexist with the Sailors of Colombia who are part of the Naval Base ARC Málaga, respectful of the processes of nature, coexist with and safeguard this specimen.
Within the framework of these security and safety operations, naval infantry units have been sent to the north, center and south of the coast, covering the Gorgona, Uramba, Sanquianga, Utría National Natural Park and the Malpelo Fauna and Flora Sanctuary.
The operations are coordinated with different organizations such as the Environmental Authorities, the Directorate of National Natural Parks, the Maritime General Directorate, the National Army, the Colombian Aerospace Force, the National Police, municipal mayors, the transporters, hotel and business productive groups, in order to have the necessary communication channels available to react to any eventuality.
