In a coordinated operation conducted by the Colombian Navy and the Attorney General's Office, alias Mateo, Yepes or Catalan, alleged ringleader of the Nicolás Urango Reyes substructure of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, was arrested in the department of Bolívar.
At an area military checkpoint, troops of the Elite Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) and the Bolivar Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) attached to the Navy Infantry Brigade No.1, with the support of officials of the Attorney General's Office, found the individual alias Mateo on a public road in the village of Arenas, municipality of San Jacinto - Bolivar.
Through a review it was possible to identify that this individual had an arrest warrant in force against him for the alleged crimes of association to commit aggravated crimes for the purpose of homicide issued by the Third Municipal Court of Cartagena, where a communication equipment in his possession was in the same way seized.
Alias Mateo was the alleged zone ringleader of the Nicolás Urango Reyes substructure of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo that commits crimes on the Montes de María region in the municipalities of El Carmen de Bolívar and San Jacinto, from where he directed criminal and extortion activities.
According to the investigations, this individual was in charge of extortions and homicides in the urban and rural areas of the aforementioned municipalities, and was the brain of the homicides carried out on National Police personnel in 2022. In the same way, according to intelligence information it was possible to verify that alias Mateo was the one who ordered graffiti to be made on some civilian vehicles on the Western road Line.
Alias Mateo who was part of this gang for more than two years, was put into custody of the Cartagena Sectional Prosecutor's Office.
