In the frame of the mission of providing support to face the emergency generated in air transport by the recent suspension of operations of the Viva Air and Ultra airlines, the Colombian Air Force, through the Military Transport Air Command-CATAM on a humanitarian mission, reported supporting 1,100 passengers who were hit by those cancelations.
Heeding the call of the National Government during the month of March and early April, CATAM sent C-40, Boeing 737 and Fokker-28 transport aircraft belonging to the presidential fleet, for the transfer of passengers from San Andrés and Providencia, Santa Marta and Cartagena to the center of the country.
These humanitarian air support missions were carried out simultaneously at the ramp of the Military Air Transport Command in Bogotá, with the aim of returning the blocked passengers to their place of origin with the prior coordination of Civil Aeronautics and military Transport Superintendence of the airports.
Since the crisis began, the CATAM crews have flown more than 30 hours on different routes, assisting passengers with the need to move quickly, counting on the logistical support of the Air Combat Command No.5 in Rionegro, Antioquia and the Caribbean Air Group in San Andrés.
