Through a joint, coordinated and interagency operation, another serious blow is being dealt to the finances of the outlaw groups that commit crimes in the Bajo Cauca of Antioquia.
The Colombian Air Force, through the Air Combat Command No. 5, the Joint Task Force Aquiles, the National Army, the National Police and the Attorney General's Office, continue to combat illegal mining in Antioquia, trying to give another hard blow against the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, this time in the village El Pato, municipality of Zaragoza.
Thanks to the research and constant work to protect the natural resources of the region, it was possible to find and neutralize eight backhoe loaders, a bulldozer, three industrial engines type motor pump and nine illegal mining production units, which produced deforestation and the deterioration of the environment in the area.
These illegal mines that were intervened by the authorities, had a profitability that exceeded 3,500 million pesos, in addition to heavy machinery, with an approximate cost of 3,000 million pesos, damaging the finances of the Roberto Vargas Gutiérrez structure, in approximately 350 million pesos per month.
With the support of environmental experts, it was possible to confirm the environmental damage with a loss of over 141 square hectares of land and the removal of soil and subsoil by 32,000 cubic metres and a deforestation of about 43,000 trees, destroying the fauna, flora and water sources nearby.
