Thanks to the coordinated work of the Navy of Colombia with the maritime groups of the department, it was possible the rescue of three fishermen of Colombian nationality, they had two days adrift, due to a mechanical breakdown in their boat fishing in Riohacha, La Guajira.

The search and rescue operation began once the emergency call to the Port Authority of Riohacha was known. The crew of a tugboat that was in the scene of the events, alerted about a rudimentary boat named Marilyn, which was adrift approximately 27 nautical miles off shore, with three people on board who were dragged out to sea by the heavy waves and the difficult weather conditions of the area.

Immediately, a Rapid Reaction Unit of the Coast Guard Station of Santa Marta was deployed and the search and rescue protocols at sea were activated. The tug-type boats that were sent in the area, in order to carry out search patterns to find and rescue fishermen in a timely manner.

At the scene of the emergency, crew members of the Coast Guard of Santa Marta find the boat along with the drifting fishermen, and in compliance with safety measures, they transported the people aboard the Colombian Navy Unit and towed the boat to safe dock of Riohacha, where they received medical assistance, food and hydration.
