Minister of Defense gave reassurance to Norte de Santander with the deployment of troops of the Army's Second Division, the Police Region No. 5, the Naval Cadet School Almirante Padilla, of the National Navy, and the Air Combat Command No. 1, of the Colombian Air Force.
Minister Molano installed 4 unified command posts: in the Thirtieth Brigade, in La Bagatela, in the Border Assistance Center, and in the Metropolitan Police of Cúcuta.
Cúcuta (Norte de Santander), October 4, 2021. In the municipality of Villa del Rosario, the Minister of National Defense, Diego Molano Aponte, announced the deployment of about 9,000 additional Military and National Police units, added to the aviation Resources of the Military Forces, ready to provide security in the commemoration of the Bicentenary of the Constitution of Villa del Rosario de Cúcuta.
The operation, conducted for two weeks, has the purpose of “guaranteeing the security of the Norte de Sanatnder, supporting the events that will take place during the following days, and of course, ensuring that all military operations that have been carried out in Norte de Santander", said Minister Molano.
“With this deployment we guarantee that we have reviewed the operations of military and police work in the 19 informal border points”, Molano said.
In addition, the Minister informed that intelligence operations are being carried out throughout the metropolitan area to prevent, deter and control the points where the events of the Bicentenary will take place.
To this end, the Colombian Military Forces, in coordination with the Ministries of National Defense and Culture, the National Police, the Government of Norte de Santander, and other local authorities, will conduct security and protocol tasks.
The head of the ministry of Defense informed that the Operation Constitution will be deployed in the road axes, in the center of the city and in Villa del Rosario, with “mobile protection operations, such as the teams Meteoro, and air deployment.”
The Minister of Defense highlighted the border monitoring with Remote Unmanned Aircraft, with Air Force exercises to do permanent surveillance; as well as the deployment of almost 4,000 men of the National Police who will carry out intelligence operations, control checkpoints and judicial background checks.
For its part, the National Army will maintain an operation of Urban Special Forces, which were specially brought to the city.
The commemorative activities will take place by October 4 and 6, in the municipality of Villa del Rosario, Norte de Santander, in order to evoke the important event, exalt the feeling of national patriotism and strengthen the ties of international trust.
Finally, the Minister said that every day unified command posts and intelligence assessment points have been carried out, in which security alerts are identified; however, in this regard, he reported that “so far everything is going normally.”
